Wasdale Mountain Rescue Lingmell Dash Fell Race – 1400 Saturday July 26 2008

Wasdale has been voted Britain's favourite view and contains many hidden gems one of which is the 4.5 mile long and 2500 feet of accent 'Lingmell Dash' fell race which is now in it's sixth year of raising funds for the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team. This out and back course provides stunning views for both the runners and spectators whilst raising awareness and funding for the WMR Team.

42 runners lined up at the Wasdale Head Inn for WMR Team Leader Julian Carradice to set them off across the valley floor with an emergency flare. After half a mile the lung bursting climb to the summit began and soon spread the field out with Dark Peaks Lloyd Taggart pulling away from his team mates Joe Blackett and Mike Robinson. Lloyd turned at the summit first and maintained his comfortable lead to finish in 46:14 - 38 seconds outside last years record and nearly six minutes ahead of Joe in 52:06 and Mike in 52:14. For the ladies Hazel Robinson of Ambleside climbed well and finished in 65:04 over five minutes outside her own record from 2006. In second Lindsay Buck (LV45) from Gosforth running for Cumberland Fell Runners maintained her excellent record in the race finishing in 75:38.

Jackie Lee, who a fortnight ago jointly broke the ladies Wasdale Fell Race record by seven minutes was coerced into handing out the prizes which had all been kindly provided by local businesses with Lingmell House B&B, Wasdale Head Inn, Burnthwaite Farm B&B, The Barn Door Shop and the Great Gable Brewing Company all making contributions. All the runners also received a bottle of 'Trail Ale' donated by Howard Christie from the Inn which also provided the team prize which this year went to the Dark Peak club. A special thank you was also given by the organisers to the clubs of Long Eaton and Preston who between them supplied 14 of the field and have been regular supporters of the race over the past couple of years.
